As a PADI Assistant Instructor, you not only gain additional experience as a PADI Professional scuba diver, but you also start learning the PADI System of diver education. You can act as an instructional scuba assistant and assume limited teaching responsibilities. It’s a great way to gain experience in order to become a scuba instructor!

The PADI Assistant Instructor (AI) course is part one on the path to becoming a full PADI Instructor, with the second part being the Open Water Scuba Instructor Course (OWSI).

To begin the PADI AI Program you need to already be a certified PADI Divemaster. PADI Divemasters who are looking to become Full PADI Instructors can complete both segments together on the PADI IDC (Instructor Development Course).

This course is run at our Takapuna dive store and takes just 3 days! Working closely with our PADI Instructors, you’ll learn how to conduct knowledge development sessions, confined water skill assessment and review, open water skill assessment and rescue skill reviews.
If you do have any questions or would like to discuss availability, enquire here or give us a call in store - 09 489 7782

Why complete your PADI Instructor course with Performance Diver?

Great question! There are many companies offering PADI Instructor courses, so here is why we think you should consider us:
  • We don't require our Instructor Candidates to take their course through the Tertiary education system, so our costs are much lower. This means that we prioritise and teach the course that PADI has designed, to make you an effective and employable PADI Instructor without lumbering you with the huge student loan at the end of the course.
  • We have a 100% pass record for our IDC students at the PADI Instructor Exam!
  • We complete the theory segments of the AI, OWSI or IDC program in our well equipped classrooms here in our dive shop in Takapuna, rather than forcing you to teach yourself with a purely e-learning based course! We find that students learn better, faster and ultimately become more knowledgeable Instructors when the theory is completed in person with our PADI Course Director Andy Stewart, backed up by our team of IDC Staff Instructors.

Course Prerequisites:
  • Already be at least a certified and in status PADI Divemaster with 60 or more logged dives. You also need to have completed CPR and EFR training within the last 24 months.
  • Complete the Dive Medical form. Click here to print the PADI Medical Form for diving. If you answer yes to any of the medical questions you must complete a Dive Medical check with your Doctor and obtain written medical clearance before the start of the course as we can't allow you in the water without it.
  • Students must be at least 18 years of age.
